Here are various methods of converting fractions to decimal form, Let us discuss them one by one below:
Method 1.
Long Division method:
Example 1: Let us take a fraction 4/5
In the fraction, 4/5. 4 is dividend and the divisor is 5
We divide 4 by 5 by long division method.
So, we can write 4/5 in decimal form as 0.8.
The final answer is 0.8
Example 2. Let’s take another fraction of 1/7
We can write 1/7 in decimal form as 0.142857……
Method 2.
By multiplying or dividing both numerator and denominator of the given fraction to convert denominator as 10, 100, 1000, etc.
Let us take some examples:
Example 1: 1/2
Denominator is 2
Multiply the denominator 2 by 5 to make it as 10
We also multiply numerator 1 by 5.
So, we multiply both numerator and denominator by 5
1/2 x 5/5 = 5/10 = 0.5
Now, write down 5 with decimal points 1 space from the right because 10 has one zero.
Answer is 0.5
Example 2: 10/25
We make denominator as 100.
Multiply both numerator and denominator by 4.
10/25 x 4/4 = 40/100 = 0.40
We write down 40 with the decimal point 2 spaces from right because 100 has two zeros.
The answer is 0.40.
